A girl from the Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh has refused to tie the knot with her to-be-groom due to his inability to count money.

The incident took place on Friday when Gudia was to wed Manoj, a boy from the Baksar district of Bihar. After the initial ceremony of 'Parchavan', the bride suspected the groom to be illiterate and decided to test him.

The girl then asked him to count currency notes, in which he failed, after which she refused to marry him.

"Nobody in my family had seen the man before the wedding. On the day of the wedding, I told him to divide the money into two and he could
not do it," Gudia said.

"He did not even know the multiplication table of two or six," she added.

This incident takes place two months after another girl in the state, Lovely, had called off her wedding after her bridegroom-to-be failed to solve a mathematics question posed to him.
