UP shocker: Father joins two friends in raping daughter

In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by her father and his two friends in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur district on Monday.

While the police have nabbed one accused, two others are still on the run.

Police said the father, believed to be in his late 50s, took his daughter to a fair in Kamlapur area Sitapur on the evening of April 15. The father then called his friend Maan Singh to the spot and convinced the woman to ride with them on a motorcycle.

They took her to the house of another friend Meraj where all three raped her and kept her confined for 18 hours. She managed to escape on Monday morning and narrated her ordeal to her mother, following which an FIR was registered in the matter.

Meraj was arrested on Tuesday while the woman’s father and Maan Singh are still on the run.

The police said that Maan Singh is a history-sheeter and Meraj works as a quack in Kamlapur.

Kamlapur SHO Sanjeet Sonkar said Meraj's family was away on the day of the crime. He is in his early forties.

According to Sitapur SP Sureshrao A Kulkarni, the woman was married off 16 years ago but returned to her parents' home within two years of marriage after a tiff with her husband. She is currently living with her 14-year-old son, separate from her parents.

Police said victim’s father had been banished by the villagers at a panchayat last year in November after being accused of having an incestuous relationship with the daughter.

“A panchayat was called and the father was arrested. He got bail in February this year,” said Kulkarni.
