The infamous rivalry between two of the major Delhi gangs took yet another bloody turn on Tuesday afternoon, when two alleged gangsters were beaten to death while being transported from a court to the Tihar prison complex.

More shocking is the fact that the incident took place right inside a police vehicle which was being used to carry the inmates who belonged to two rival gangs, both notorious for their violent activities in Outer Delhi areas.

According to police officials, a total of nine inmates of Tihar were present in the vehicle at the time of incident which is stated to be at 4 pm.

When the vehicle reached Outer Delhi's Mongolpuri area, the driver, a police official, noticed that the inmates were fighting amongst themselves and one of them had already been badly injured.

"One of the inmates was being attacked by five others. One more was lying on his back," an investigator quoted from the report filed by the police official who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. According to police, the official on witnessing what had happened turned the vehicle around and began to drive towards the nearest hospital.

Simultaneously, another police officer, accompanying the driver, made a call to the police control room to brief them about the situation. Upon reaching the hospital, the vehicle carrying the inmates was brought to a halt by dozens of policemen who had arrived to bring the situation under control. However, two of the inmates, identified as Paras Goldy and Pradeep Bhola, were declared dead on arrival.

The other five, according to officials, have been admitted to the same hospital for treatment and are being currently guarded by atleast a dozen police personnel. The two, who survived the incident without any injuries, are said to be unrelated to the gang.

Both of the deceased belonged to the dreaded Neetu Dabodia gang which for over a decade fought a bloody turf war with their rivals named Neeraj Bawana. Senior police officials told dna that no weapons were recovered from the vehicle and there were high chances that the men died because of suffering repeated blows on their heads.

"This is an extremely disturbing incident, We initiated investigation into the matter and those accused of the brutal crime have been booked murder, "said Vikramjeet Singh the Deputy Commissioner of Police. He added that investigators will also probe whether or not there were any security lapses on part of the Delhi police.

The incident however puts several question marks on the infrastructure available to prison authorities which decided to put rival gang members in the same vehicle especially after the violent history the gangsters share.

Several members of both Neetu Dabodia and Neeraj Bawana gangs, figure in the most wanted list of the Delhi Police. While Neetu Dabodia was killed in an encounter by the Delhi Police Special Cell in 2012, Neeraj Bawana is currently lodged in Tihar jail after his arrest in April this year. Both the gangs have been allegedly involved in a series of extortion cases and violence perpetrated against each other as well as against scores of civilians.
