This 51-year-old writes her MA exam

There is a right time for everything. While some believe in this saying, others just take out some time and make it right. Among them is 51-year-old Beena Thomas, who decided to pursue her long-pending masters degree two years ago and is presently awaiting her result. 

“It was almost later 1980s when I finished my BEd and shifted my focus entirely towards teaching. At that point, it seemed enough for my profession. Over the years I wanted to go for masters but couldn’t take a break due to other commitments,” says Saudi-Arabia settled Thomas who was a vice-Principal at Modern Middle East International School, Riyadh when she resigned. 

Around two years ago, when her daughter Sonia finished her post-graduation and was taking up a job in Mumbai, Thomas found it the right opportunity to take a break. Although, the primary reason was to help her daughter settle down in the dream city, she wanted to focus on her health as well as pursue a masters degree.  

“While I was thinking twice about going back to college, my daughter happened to see that Mumbai University is accepting applications for admissions in an online masters course (MA in Education). She informed me and also filled up the form,” says 

Under the course, Thomas had to go to college for a 2.5 hour class thrice a week. Speaking about her college life, she admits feeling like a student again. “I felt similar to how an 18-year-old feels in a classroom. I made friends, although they were many years younger to me and were very respectful towards me and did everything college-goers do like hanging out after classes and not going home directly,” she chuckles.
