Tamil Nadu: Boat capsizes in Tuticorin, nine dead

In a shocking incident, at least nine tourists were killed and 17 others were rescued after a fishing boat carrying tourist capsized in sea near Manapad area of Tuticorin on Sunday. 

According to reports, the boat carrying 20 turned turtle while returning to the shore. The cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Rescue operations underway.

“Nine persons lost their lives and 19 were rescued when a boat capsized off Manapadu coast. Three families from Tiruchendur seems to have booked the boat,” District Collector M Ravi Kumar told IANS. He also added that the rescued were admitted to private and government hospitals.

A major boat accident had taken place earlier in December at at Pulicat lake killing 22 people.
