Suraj Pal Amu, the BJP leader infamous for offering Rs 10 crore bounty for beheading actress Deepika Padukone and director Bhansali for allegedly distorting historical facts and showing Queen Padmini in a bad light in the film, has resigned from the primary membership of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

The former Haryana BJP leader resigned a day after he was granted a bail. He was arrested for his statements against the film 'Padmaavat'.

After resigning from the post he had in Haryana BJP, he had said, "I am pained at the behavior of Haryana Chief Minister. I have never seen a BJP CM so arrogant who doesn't respect party workers and community representatives."

Amu had stated that he was upset over Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar allegedly skipping a meeting with representatives of the Karni Sena.

At a function of the Rajput community in Delhi, Amu had questioned, "how can we allow somebody to distort history and mislead the people by projecting the heroic character of Rani Padmavati in a poor light while glorifying the villains of history."

Earlier, he had also said that he wants to slap former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah.

"Now my dream is to slap Farooq Abdullah on Lal Chowk, I challenge him to meet me there," Amu said.
