Pitampura engineering student takes extreme step after senior refuses to marry her.
A 21-year-old student hanged herself at her boyfriend's residence allegedly over a failed love affair, in Vishwas Nagar area of east Delhi.
The police said Kiran wanted to marry Tushkar, however, when he refused, she was forced to take an extreme step.
Kiran, a resident of Sant Nagar, went over to her 23-year-old boyfriend Tushkar's house on Sunday afternoon to talk to him. However, his mother said Tusharwas in Lucknow and asked Kiran to leave. When Kiran insisted to stay back until Tushkar returned, his mother locked the house around and left 04:30pm leaving Kiran waiting outside the house.
At around 10pm, when Tushar's mother returned, the lock on her door was broken and Kiran was hanging from a ceiling fan in Tushar's room. She immediately alerted the neighbours and called the police, who took her body to a hospital. After medical examination, the girl's body was handed over to her family for funeral rituals.
The police has arrested Tushar under abetment to suicide. Both, the deceased Kiran and Tushar were students of B.Tech at an engineering college in Pitampura and had known each other for three years.
"We have registered a case under section 306 of Indian penal code. However, we are investigating the exact sequence of events," said a senior police official. The medical examination of the deceased revealed that she had no physical relationship with Tushar.
The family members of Tushar, told police that he was in no way involved in the whole incident and should be released as soon as possible.
According to the NCRB report, incidences of suicides due to love affairs accounted for 3.2 percent of all suicidal deaths--3849--in 2012. Delhi recorded 38 suicides in 2011 due to love affairs which jumped to 59 in 2012.

April 2013...A 21-year-old woman committed suicide in west Delhi's Paschim Vihar area by jumping from a building after a quarrel with her boyfriend over their marriage.
May 2013...A 23 year old Manipuri student committed suicide in Safdurjung enclave after his friend did not respond to his proposal.
