Urging India to resume bilateral talks, Islamabad has requested New Delhi for military de-escalation along the Line of Control and the international border.

The appeal comes against the backdrop of rising tensions, including air raids and ceasefire violations, between the neighbours triggered by the February 14 Pulwama terror attack that left 40 CRPF soldiers dead.

Pakistan used the diplomatic channel in April end seeking a climbdown by India from its aggressive border stand. "The request came after India started giving a befitting reply to each ceasefire violation along the border and the LoC," said the source.

India, however, reiterated its decision that de-escalation will happen only when Pakistan takes strong measures to stop terror activities from its soil, said officials.

India has resorted to heavy deployment of forces along the border to stop infiltration of Pakistani terrorists and regularly carries out searches to neutralise holed-up terrorists on Indian soil.

After the February 26 Indian military strike on Jaish-e-Mohammed terror training camp at Balakot, Pakistan's military has been deployed on its eastern borders with India. Pakistan had also placed strict restrictions on its airspace for which was lifted on March 27.

So far this year, there have been 982 ceasefire violations from Pakistan, though the number was only nine till Friday. In January, there were 203 ceasefire violations and 215 in February. In March it was 267 and in April it was 234.

While both sides have reported casualties, India has said it will carry out strikes if Pakistan does not changes its stand on terrorism. Also, India recently registered a huge diplomatic victory after the United Nations listed JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist and most of nation condemned Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism from its soil.
