A 25-year-old woman has alleged that she was sexually assaulted while in custody by a station house officer in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that he forcibly stripped her and violated her private parts with a beer bottle and chilli powder.

According to a CNN News-18 report, the woman who worked as a domestic help, said that the incident occurred after she was accused by her employers of theft. She added that she was wrongly confined and tortured for a week by Kanachak Police Station SHO Rakesh Sharma. She was reportedly granted bail on 6 May.

However, Sharma has refuted the allegations and claimed that the woman was a "habitual offender". An Indian Express report quoted him saying the woman had earlier been arrested in Punjab in cases related to theft and narcotics.

While results of a medical examination are awaited, the woman’s lawyer has said that there were 11 injury marks on the victim's body.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitendra Singh has asked the state govt to look into the issue immediately.
