A popular sherpa climber from Darjeeling has gone missing after he fell into a crevasse at Saser Kangri during an expedition on Friday.
Pemba Sherpa, 47, has climbed Mount Everest 8 times and various other peaks including Mt. Makalu, Kanchenjunga and others. He has been long associated with Bengal Mountaineering.
He fell into a crevasse at Saser Kangri IV on his return after the summit.
A rescue team consisting of ITBP jawans and sherpas is looking for Pemba.
His wife said that he left home on June 19 with 4 other people saying that he was going to Manali. His elder brother got a call informing him about the incident on Saturday evening.
"Yesterday evening I got a call about that. We are hoping he is alive. He has scaled Mount Everest 8 times as recorded. He has also reached to the top many times which has not been recorded,” his brother, also a mountaineer, said.
