The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared its Class 12 results on Sunday morning amidst confusion over its moderation policy. This year, the overall pass percentage was recorded at 82.02 per cent which saw a slight dip from 2016, which recorded a 83.05 per cent result. A total of 10,76,761 students appeared for the exam in March 2017.

While Trivandrum region recorded the best pass percentage amongst the ten regions (95.62), Chennai region came second with a total pass percentage of 92.60 per cent. Like in 2016, girls have outdone the boys by 9.5 per cent this year as well. 87.50 per cent girls passed the exam as opposed to 78 per cent boys. Raksha Gopal, a Humanities student from Amity International School in Noida, topped the exam with 99.6 per cent marks, scoring a perfect 100 in English, Political Science and Economics. Bhoomi Sawant, a Science student from DAV Public School in Chandigarh, stood second with a score of 99.4 per cent. Aditya Jain and Mannat Luthra from the Commerce stream in Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh stood third with 99.2 per cent .

While 63,247 students scored 90 per cent and above, 10,091 students scored 95 per cent and above this year. Ajay Raj from St Thomas Central School in Trivandrum topped from the differently abled category with a score of 98 per cent.

'My result was unimaginable'

Sunday started on an unusual note for Raksha Gopal, who emerged as the all-India CBSE (Central Board for Secondary Education) topper in the Class XII examinations, with a score of 99.6 per cent, a mere 0.4 per cent short of perfection.

17-year-old Raksha Gopal from Amity International School, Noida certainly shot to fame. However, what she had not expected was a phone call from the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Prakash Javadekar's office, five minutes after the results were announced.
