Addressing a rally at North Tripura’s Kailashahar, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that voting for the BJP is akin to committing suicide.

“They are spending crores of money to buy votes. And like the CPI (M), they are working hard to break the democratic traditions of our country. They do not believe in constitutional democracy. Similarly, under the CPI (M), the state has seen practically no development in the last 25 years,” said Gandhi.

Attacking the PM, he said, “The PM comes for a few hours, makes a few promises never to be seen again.”

He said that if the Congress comes to power, the Tripura airport will be named after “Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya”, and that the district autonomous council will receive benefits directly from the Centre.

“The BJP had made false promises to the people of Gorkhaland and Nagaland. I urge the people of Tripura not to fall for the same claims,” he said. The state goes to polls on February 18 to elect a new 60-member assembly.

Rahul also announced relief for people hit by the chit fund scam and said that when the scam unfolded the BJP was in the Centre.
