President Mukherjee, Narendra Modi wish nation on Guru Nanak Jayanti

    President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, extended their greetings to the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Devs birthday.

    "On the joyous occasion of the birthday of Guru Nanak Devji, I convey greetings and good wishes to all my fellow countrymen" said President Mukherjee. Added, "Guru Nanak Devji believed that service of man is supreme. He called upon all people to lead a moral and righteous life."

    Vice-President Ansari also wished the nation on the auspicious occasion. "The founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji has remained an icon of truth, compassion, and righteousness through his noble life," he said. "His divine teachings would forever inspire us to follow the path of righteousness and show respect for all humankind irrespective of caste, creed or religion."

    On Twitter, Prime Minister Modi wished the nation and also reminded the country of Guru Nanak Dev's message. 

    Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was born on April 15, 1469 in Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in the present Shekhupura district of Pakistan, now Nankana Sahib. His birthday is celebrated on Kartik Poornima, the full moon day in the month of Kartik.
