Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's much-awaited speech at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday termed the former's exhaustive engagements in Australia a part of multi-layered diplomacy.

"Following the G-20, we immediately switched on to another mode. What is being practiced is called multi-layered diplomacy. One layer is in terms of international engagements at a multi-lateral level. Another layer is engagements of public diplomacy where the Prime Minister yesterday and today is engaged with different sections of the public to spread a common message about his vision of India, about India where he would like others to come and invest," MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.

He added that government to government discussions will take place tomorrow, which will be the third element in the multi-layer diplomacy.

Akbaruddin also pointed that the reworking of the final G-20 communiqué after Prime Minister Modi spoke about unaccounted wealth and his meeting with at least 15 world leaders were the two major outcomes of the trip.

"A grouping of the leading economies in the world has accommodated India's interests immediately after the Prime Minister of India voiced his views on a topic which we consider important for India. That's number one in terms of outcome," he said.

"Number two is in terms of G-20 meetings, the PM has met no less than 15 leaders. We weren't able to accommodate everyone given scheduling constraints, but they have had informal consultations with every leader present there," added Akbaruddin.

The MEA spokesperson further said that the world leaders had a sense of great interest in India.

"There is a sense of interest that the PM is able to reinvigorate India economically and India's place in the world. So, virtually every leader that we have met at the G-20 is understanding of this new phenomenon in India. It bodes well for India," he said.
