PM Modi in Karnataka: Siddaramaiah govt's apathy hampering welfare of farmers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused Karnataka government of not being sensitive to the challenges faced by the farmers and not taking right steps to extend benefits of various schemes to the peasants.  "Due to the apathy of Karnataka govt, farmers in the state have not got the benefit of 'Fasal Bima Yojna'. A sensitive govt, which works for the development of farmers is needed in Karnataka," PM Modi said while addressing Kisan Morcha Karyakartas of Karnataka on Wednesday.

PM Modi interacted with Kisan Morcha Karyakartas of BJP through NaMo App and accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of not doing enough for the welfare of farmers. PM highlighted the steps taken by his government to address the issue of the distress of farmers. 
"We have increased Minimum Support Price (MSP) for notified crops to at least 1.5 times that of the production cost," PM said. 

While talking about crop insurance schemes, PM claimed that all efforts were being made to ensure rights of the farmers of Karnataka.  "Around 3.5 crore farmers have been covered under PM Fasal Bima Yojana, out of which 14 lakh farmers belong to Karnataka," Prime Minister Modi said.

Narendra Modi highlighted the steps taken to ensure farmers got the right price for the crops. "We have increased MSP for notified crops to at least 1.5 times that of the production cost," he said.

Karnataka has been facing water crisis like many other states in India and Narendra Modi government has recently introduced many schemes to help farmers embrace micro-irrigation. "4 lakh hectare land in Karnataka has already been brought under micro-irrigation,"  PM Modi claimed. According to PM, one crore farmers have been provided Soil Health Card in Karnataka. 

"A sensitive govt, which works for the development of farmers is needed in Karnataka. Farmer’s leader in Yeddyurappa Ji will work with renewed vigour in our efforts to double farmer’s income," PM Modi said.
