The Petition Committee of Delhi Assembly today pulled up the Public Works Department (PWD) officials over the desilting work after it found one of the drains overflowing and causing heavy traffic jam on the Mehrauli-Badarpur (MB) road during an inspection.

Irked by the desilting work by the PWD, it directed them to file a status report over the issue within one week.

The move comes after members of the committee, headed by AAP MLA Sourabh Bharadwaj made an inspection and found a drain which was overflowing and causing heavy traffic jam on the MB road.

"PWD officers were pulled by the Petition Committee for heavy traffic jams caused by overflowing drain on MB Road. Not acceptable," Bharadwaj tweeted.

The committee has sought a report within one week over the issue, the MLA said.

The Petition Committee can take action on the complaints of general public.

He said during the inspection, silt was also found in the drain on Guru Ravidas Marg towards Govindpuri area.

"The ground reality was contrary to officers' claim of desilting major drains when the committee members stepped out for the inspection," he also said.

In another tweet, the AAP alleged that municipal corporations declared 100 per cent of desilting in the Lt Governor's meeting yesterday, but the situation was totally different.

"Yesterday MCD has declared 100% desilting in LG's Meeting. Today in inspection, Petition Committee found main MCD drains jam packed with silt," Bharadwaj tweeted.
