Facing rebellion, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has embarked on a mission to reach out to their workers at grassroots level in a bid to stem the rot and strengthen the party.

Several meetings have been planned over the next few days and weeks to reach out to the workers and office bearers and listen to their grievances and seek their feedback about how to make party stronger at the grassroots level.

As a part of this outreach programme, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti chaired a meeting of party leaders of central Kashmir region at her Fairview residence at Gupkar road in Srinagar on Sunday. “The meeting was aimed at reaching out to the workers and receive the feedback”, said a party leader.

Besides the legislators of central Kashmir, the meeting was attended by office bearers of the Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts. The meeting is part of series planned to reach out to the masses on the ground in a bid to stem the rot and raise the morale of the workers after the collapse of the government.

Sources said the party plans to cover all districts and regions to clear the misgivings about leadership and give a personal touch in a bid to negate the propaganda of rebels that the PDP has been turned into a family and dynastic fief.

WHY PLAY PACIFIER NOW?

The meeting comes against the backdrop of rebellion by several MLAs and MLCs in the party. PDP rebel MLA from Noorabad constituency Abdul Majeed Padder even claimed to have support of 51 MLAs to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir and complete the six year term of the current Assembly
