A local court on Thursday remanded Md Salim Seikh, an accused in the Ranaghat nun rape case in Nadia district, to 14 days' judicial custody. ACJM Papia Das rejected the bail plea of Seikh, a Bangladeshi, and granted the plea of the Additional Public Prosecutor for a test identification parade.

While CID arrested Seikh from Mumbai and another accomplice Gopal Sarkar from neighbouring North 24-Parganas district on March 26, four other Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Ludhiana in connection with the incident on April 1.

Salim was earlier produced before the same court at Ranaghat on March 27 and remanded to 14 days' police custody. They were slapped with charges of dacoity, gangrape and voluntarily causing hurt to a woman among others.

The rape of the 71-year-old nun at the Convent of Jesus and Mary at Ranaghat on March 14 had triggered a nation-wide outrage.
