Navjot Singh Sidhu visits Pakistan High Commission on proposed visit to Imran Khan swearing-in ceremony

Punjab minister and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday met officials of Pakistan High Commission regarding his proposed visit to the neighbouring country for attending the swearing-in of Imran Khan as its prime minister.

Punjab minister and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday met officials of Pakistan High Commission regarding his proposed visit to the neighbouring country for attending the swearing-in of Imran Khan as its prime minister.

Sidhu later told reporters that he has sought the Centre's clearance for attending the ceremony in Pakistan.

Pakistan's prime minister-elect Imran Khan had called up Sidhu to extend invitation to his oath-taking ceremony in Islamabad on August 18.

"I came here for some formalities...I have applied for government's permission. Everything depends on India government's permission now," he said after visiting the Pakistan High Commission here.

"Yes, I have received the invitation along with others. It is an honour. I would definitely like to go if I get permission from the Government of India," Sidhu had earlier said. To travel abroad, the ministers in the state government need to route official communication for permission to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Sidhu has informed the Home Ministry and Punjab Chief Minister's office on his intention to attend the swearing-in ceremony.

Interestingly, Kapil Dev, who doesn't need permission, also said that he would attend the ceremony with the approval of the Indian government.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party has said Khan's oath-taking ceremony would take place at the President House in Islamabad. 

The PTI's parliamentary committee on Monday officially named party chairman Khan as their parliamentary leader and nominee for the next prime minister of Pakistan.

The PTI, which secured 116 general seats in the National Assembly in the July 25 polls is the largest party in the lower house of parliament.

Geo News reported that President Mamnoon Hussain has decided to postpone his visit to Scotland in order to administer the oath to the next prime minister.Mamnoon was scheduled to visit Edinburgh from August 16 to August 19.

"The president will now embark on his trip after the oath-taking ceremony," the report said.
