Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah will join the day-long fast undertaken by all BJP MPs on April 12 to protest the disruption of Parliament by Opposition parties. While the Prime Minister will go about his work routine while fasting, Shah will sit on a dharna against the Siddaramaiah government in poll-bound Karnataka.

The BJP's announcement is seen as an attempt to turn the tables on the Congress, which observed Sadbhavana Upwas on Monday and targetted the Modi government about the washout session of Parliament and for its "anti-Dalit and anti-farmer" policies.

BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said that the idea of the fast was mooted by Modi to communicate to the nation that BJP is aware of the suffering imposed on them by the logjam in Parliament. "This is why all NDA MPs decided to forego their salaries for 23 days of the Budget session," Rao added.

Today, Modi will address all MPs through video conferencing as they hold 'Samata Diwas' in their respective constituencies on Jyotiba Phule's birth anniversary.
