Pursuing action against Brajesh Thakur, the main accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home assault case, the district administration has ordered the seizure as well as demolition of illegal properties owned by Thakur, in his name or those of his relatives and acquaintances.

The court of Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Mohammad Sohail directed for the seizure of around 40 decimal land owned by Asha Thakur, the wife of Brajesh and a member of the NGO 'Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti', which ran the shelter home.

Apart from Asha's property, other members of the Brajesh-led NGO have also been asked to submit the details of their properties (including ancestral) so that further investigation and action can be undertaken accordingly. Around 30 vehicles that were registered in the name of the NGO and its members are also to be seized by the court. Of these, at least one vehicle belongs to Asha.

Meanwhile, the Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation has ordered for a partial demolition of the building, which housed the controversial shelter home as it violated present as well as old building by-laws. "As per the building map approved by the corporation, only a G+1 building was approved. However, the building was found to be over 50 ft high (three-storey)," said a civic body official, who was a part of the inspection team.

He added, "Thus, the owner has been asked to demolish the illegal parts of the building, which have been constructed in violation of the rules within one month, else the corporation will demolish it."

The shelter home hit headlines after a social audit of government facilities revealed grave irregularities and further investigation found that at least 34 girls were physically, mentally and sexually tortured there for months.

The case is being investigated by the CBI, while the Supreme Court and Patna High Court are monitoring the probe. On the SC's direction, Brajesh was shifted to a jail in Punjab, where he is presently lodged. The SC has also asked senior Bihar government officials to explain in person why ex-Minister Manju Verma is still "untraceable".
