Militants kill three policemen after abduction in J&K's Shopian post Hizbul's 'quit jobs' threat

In a rerun to Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz case, militants raided the residences of policemen and abducted three of them before shooting them down in Shopian district of south Kashmir.

Special Police Officers Firdous Ahmad Kuchey, Kulwant Singh and Nisar Ahmad Dhobi were abducted by militants when they stormed their homes at Batgund and Kapran villages in Shopian district on Thursday night 

Police sources said they were taken to Lamni-Wangam village adjacent to Kapran in Shopian district where they were shot dead. Their bullet riddled bodies were recovered by locals on Friday morning.

"Inhuman, barbaric act. Deplorable act by terrorists. May the departed souls rest in peace", tweeted Altaf Ahmad Khan, senior superintendent of police, Anantnag .

The incident comes days after Hizbul Mujhadeen warned cops of serious consequences if they will not quit their jobs.

The incident bears stark similarty with the  brutal  killing of Lieutenant  Ummer Fayaz lastbyear. On May 10, 2017 militants abducted 22-year-old Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz of Rajputana Riffles from the residence of his maternal uncle in Batpora village of Shopian district where he had gone to attend the marriage of his cousin sister.  He was taken to the neighboring Harmain village where he was shot dead.

The incident also comes 20 days after Militants raided the houses of serving policemen in Kashmir and abducted 11 people including cops and their kins. The spree of abductions started on August 31 after militants started raiding policemen's houses in four districts of south Kashmir.

The abduction and killing of cops could not have come at a worse time as bugle for Municipal and Panchayat polls have been sounded in Kashmir.

"Three more policemen have lost their lives to militant bullets. Outrage, shock & condemnation will be expressed by all of us on expected lines. Unfortunately, it brings no solace to the families of the victims", tweeted Mehbooba Mufti, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister.

 "Clearly, with the rise in kidnapping of police personnel and their families, Centre’s muscular policy is not working at all. Dialogue, the only way forward seems to be a distant dream for now".

Official figures reveal that there are 316 Blocks in 4490 Panchayat Halqas comprising of 35096 Panch Constituencies which will go to polls in nine phases from November 17 to December 11. Nearly 5812429 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the state.
 
Official figures reveal that the elections to two Municipal Corporations, six Municipal Councils and 72 Municipal Committees shall be held in four phases from October 8 to 16.  Out of total 1145 Wards, 90 Wards have been reserved for Scheduled Castes and 38 Wards for Scheduled Tribes which includes 31 and 13 wards reserved for SC and ST Women respectively. In addition, 322 wards have been reserved for Women.
