Terrorists kill cable operator in J&K's Shopian district; third civilian killing in three days

A PDP worker and a 16-year-old boy were killed in separate occasions

Terrorists killed a cable operator in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Sunday evening. This is the third killing in sensitive south Kashmir region in the last 24 hours and second in Shopian in less than 12 hours.

Police said Hilal Ahmad Wani, who was running a cable network in Shopian, was shot at from point blank range at 8 pm. Police said he received grievous wounds and was shifted to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The terrorists have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Turray and Umar Nazir Malik.

“Terrorists have killed Cable TV Operator Hilal Ahmad in Shopian. Was a brave and honest person, would always stand for truth. RIP,” tweeted Imtiyaz Hussain, senior superintendent of police, Baramulla.

This is the second killing in Shopian district in less than 12 hours. Earlier, the bullet-riddled body of 16-year-old Gowhar Ahmad Dar was found in the orchard in Urpora village of Shopian. Dar, a student, had been missing since Saturday evening.

“Gowhar Ahmed Dar of Urpora. Jjust 16 years old boy killed by militants ...Police is investigating the matter”, tweeted deputy inspector general of police, south Kashmir range.

On Saturday, a People’s Democratic Party worker at Ugjan village of Dialgam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district was shot dead.
