VARANASI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday said that her party had established the rule of law in the state by ending the oppressive era of Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Speaking at a function to mark the 14th century saint Sant Ravidas's birth anniversary here on Thursday Mayawati said, "After coming to power in this most populated state, I have discarded Mulayam Singh's oppressive rule."
Expressing concern over what she called the "continued oppression of dalits and the weaker sections" in the country even 60 years after independence, the BSP supremo said her government followed saint Ravidas' philosophy of Sarva jan hitay, sarva jan sukhay (for everyone's interest and happiness)
Alleging that lawlessness, injustice and oppression had become the order of the day during the Samajwadi Party's rule she claimed that the atmosphere in the state had changed a lot under the BSP which leaves no stone unturned to combat poverty and injustice.
Underscoring her party's commitment to remove social disparities she said her government is working for the uplift of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, dalits, other backward classes and the minorities.
Stating that the plight of the poor and the downtrodden had led to the creation of the BSP in 1984, Mayawati said her party had revolutionised the country's polity by providing a platform to the weaker sections.
Announcing that her government will complete all the projects which remained unfinished during her previous stint in power the UP Chief Minister said she would provide Rs twenty crore to complete the construction of a ghat along the banks of the Ganga to be named after the 14th century saint Ravidas at Nagwa.
She also said that there will be no paucity of funds for the time-bound completion of projects that remained unfinished during her last tenure.
Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled about 15 feet high Rs 1.5 crore golden palki to be installed at the saint's birth place at Seer Gowardhanpur.
An elaborate three-tier security arrangement had been made at Seer Gowardhanpur, the venue for the birth anniversary celebrations of the saint, because of the perceived threat to Mayawati's life.
