It appears that Assistant sub inspector Sanjay Shinde did not go on killing spree in a heat of the moment but did it based on a pre-planned plot. Shinde killed three people before being arrested while fleeing on Tuesday afternoon.

Small town of Daund in Pune district of Maharashtra was rattled on Tuesday afternoon when an assistant sub inspector of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) posted at state reserve police force (SRPF) camp went on killing spree and shot three persons dead. He was finally nabbed by the police from Supa in Ahmednagar district while he was on the run.

According to police, on Tuesday morning he had taken the 9 mm pistol in his possession from arms and ammunition store where he was posted at SRPF. Police also stated that he was addicted to gambling and he might have taken the step to kill three over the monetary issue.

Additional superintendent of police (Pune rural) Sandip Pakhale told DNA, "Shinde was the in charge of the arms and ammunition store room at the SRPF. On Tuesday morning, he took the 9 mm pistol and 22 rounds from the store room before going on to kill three people."

According to police, Shinde fired total ten rounds and then he left towards Ahmednagar on his two wheeler but on the way he was nabbed. Police have recovered a pistol and remaining 12 rounds from him which confirms that the fire arms were from the SRPF store room.

Speaking about the character of Shinde, police officials stated that he is known to be a notorious person. A senior police officer said, "He would often indulge into arguments and fights with people. There are some cases registered against him in the past. His wife had also lodged a complaint of harassment against him."

"He was addicted to gambling due to which he owed lot of money to others. Preliminary information points out that he had argument with Gopal over monetary issues. Gopal had a earth mover machine but he came in contact with Shinde through gambling activity. Shinde had not paid Gopal's money for a long time and he was insisting the ASI to pay him the money. We are now suspecting that Shinde was angry with Gopal due to his constant demand of money and out of that anger, he might have decided to kill him. Prashant who was with Gopal tried to save him but Shinde attacked him too."

Speaking about Anil Jadhav, the third deceased, police stated that he too was involved in gambling and playing cards activity. "Jadhav had a gambling den next to his house where Shinde had visited in the past. Jadhav and Shinde had some past enmity over gambling money which might have been the reason behind Shinde going all the way to Jadhav's house and killing him," the officer said.
