BJP Chief Amit Shah on Friday hit out at former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar accusing him joining hands with Congress to pursue his personal ambitions to become the Prime Minister and said he was going against the principles of socialist leader Karpoori Thakur.

"Karpoori Thakur is known for his contribution in the uplift of the backward classes, for whom he dedicated his entire life. "He also fought against Congress till his last breath. Instead of taking inspiration from him by following his principles, you sided with Congress to be in power. You have no right to remember or talk of Thakur and his principles," Shah said while attacking Kumar.

Addressing a rally in memory of Thakur, a former Bihar Chief Minister, Shah said Kumar sided with Congress and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad after breaking the 17-year-old alliance with BJP.

Lauding the people of Bihar for voting for the NDA and bringing Narendra Modi to power, the BJP leader sought their support to help give his party an absolute majority in the next Assembly election to ensure all-round development of the state.

He said, "For 17 years, JD(U)-BJP alliance in Bihar was fighting against Congress and Lalu Prasad. For your (Kumar's) personal ambition of becoming the Prime Minister, you broke the alliance with BJP."

This was Shah's first public rally in Bihar where BJP is eyeing to form its government in the Assembly polls due later this year and the party's focus is to wrest power in the state from JD-U
