Eid-al-Adha ​​was celebrated peacefully across Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. At least 10,000 people offered prayers at the Jama Masjid in Baramulla while many people were seen at mosques in Srinagar, Shopian, Anantnag, Budgam and Bandipore. People were seen on the streets of Srinagar greeting each other on the festive occasion. The Army also joined in to help residents in some areas connect with their friends and family outside the state. 

“People came out in good numbers to pray on the occasion of Eid in Jammu And Kashmir. Prayers were conducted at prominent mosques in Srinagar and Shopian. Over 4,500 offered prayers at Eidgah Jammu,” informed the Home Min​​istry.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval — who has been responsible for overseeing the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir since Article 370 was revoked last Monday — undertook an aerial survey of the Valley to take stock of the situation and to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. In the last one week, Doval has been seen interacting with locals to understand their needs and views across Kashmir.

The verified handle of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs on microblogging site Twitter shared photographs of people offering Eid Namaz at mosques in Srinagar and Shopian. “Eid prayers offered peacefully in all local mosques of Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipore, without any untoward incident. Jamia masjid old town Baramulla witnessed approx 10,000 people offering prayers,” read one tweet.

The Kashmir Zone of J&K police also confirmed on Twitter that prayers were conducted peacefully in various parts of the Valley. “Eid prayers concluded peacefully in various parts of the valley. No untoward incident reported so far.”

The government eased travel restrictions in various parts of Srinagar on the occasion of Eid-Al-Adha. Rohit Kansal, a spokesman of the Jammu and Kashmir government, said, “More than 5,000 people came to ​Eid gah in Srinagar and prayed peacefully. We have set up telephone booths in places and have made arrangements here in the DC office as well and are taking more steps to prevent inconvenience for the people.”

He said some minor protests were reported at two or three places in the morning but the situation is peaceful.
