In a shocking incident in a school in Mandya, Karnataka, a school strip-searched 12 girls when a classmate complained that she was missing Rs.100. According to a report in Bangalore Mirror, the girl who lost her money then took the matter to her headmistress Jayalakshmamma.

The report adds that the headmistress came to their class and demanded to know who had stolen the money. When no one responded, she had the students close the doors and windows to the classroom.  First, she frisked the girls and when the money was not found, she forced 12 of them to strip naked.

The girls who had been strip-searched complained to their parents. The irate parents came to the school the next day and protested. The State Education Department suspended the headmistress and began an inquiry into the matter.

Block Education Officer Anantha Raju told the Mirror, "The incident did take place and what we know prima facie is the students were stripped naked. Hence, we have suspended her pending inquiry. As it is a sensitive issue and teens are involved, we have referred the matter to the Women and Child Welfare Department who will probe further."
