India summons Pakistan High Commissioner over delays in 26/11 terror attacks trial in Pakistan

India on Friday lodged a strong diplomatic protest against the reported adjournment of the ongoing Mumbai terrorist attack trial in Pakistan.

The Pakistani Deputy High Commissioner has been summoned by the Foreign Ministry, said sources, to complain against the delays. Indian officials have sought regular briefings from Pakistan on progress of 26/11 trial and the probe being conducted by Pakistani authorities​.

It is understood that Indian officials during the meetings reiterated the high importance India attaches to bring to justice all those responsible in Pakistan for the Mumbai terror attack in 2008.

166 people were killed and 300 injured in 2008 when 10 terrorists from Pakistan attacked Mumbai. The only terrorist caught alive, Ajmal Kasab, was hanged in Pune in 2012.  

On Thursday for the seventh time in a row, a Pakistani anti-terrorism court trying the seven accused in the 2008 Mumbai attacks case adjourned the hearing till September 3 as the judge has gone on a summer vacation. he court office notified that ATC Rawalpindi Judge Attiquer Rehman has gone on a summer vacation.

The last hearing in the case and the one on June 25 could not be held because the judge was on leave. The case proceedings have not been held on a regular basis following the absence of the prosecution lawyers.

Lashkar-e-Taiba operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Hamad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jameel Riaz, Jamil Ahmed and Anjum have been charged with planning, financing and executing the attacks in India's financial capital.
