The Delhi High Court on Wednesday has asked the coaching institutes in the Mukherjee Nagar area as to when they are leaving the area and relocating.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Harishankar also directed the coaching institutes to file an affidavit in this regard.

The court was hearing a petition filed by Kanchan Gupta and Sanjay Singh which claimed that over 100 coaching centres were permitted to be run by the MCD in residential properties.

They have also alleged that the institutes are operating without meeting the requirements of the master plan for buildings where such user is permitted

The court also expressed concerns over the parking issues in the residential area of the city due the large number of coaching institutes operating from there.

"It is an impossible situation. The people living in the city have become selfish for earning profit out of their business. They don't even think about their neighbours," the bench said.

"Run a tutorial class. Take just 20 students. It's a very selfish stand that we take. The city is bursting out," said the bench slamming the coaching centre owners for converting a residential area to a commercial zone.

"What kind of education and value you are teaching to students by running coaching centres in residential area? Why don't you move out to outer Delhi or NCR, where there is more industrial area," the bench said.

The court observed that it had clearly said that the law has to be strictly complied with.
