Government says no shortage of essential commodities in Trilokpuri

Delhi government on Tuesday claimed that there is no shortage of essential commodities in violence-hit Trilokpuri area and special arrangements are also being made to provide these commodities to residents at reasonable prices.

"There is no shortage of essential commodities in Trilok Puri area. We are maintaining a very close vigil on the availability and the prices of essential commodities like rice, atta, dals, vegetables, milk etc.in this area in close coordination with SAFAL and Mother Dairy," SS Yadav, commissioner of Food & Supply Department, said. Yadav said that special arrangements have been made by Delhi Government in collaboration with Mother Dairy, SAFAL and Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (DSCSC) to provide essential commodities at reasonable prices.

He said that Department has constituted ten teams of legal metrology officers. These teams are taking rounds of the area and keeping a close watch on the prices. Strict action is being taken against traders indulging in overcharging, hoarding and other malpractices to cheat the consumers. "SAFAL has opened additional stalls in various pockets of this area to make available onions, potatoes and fresh vegetables, pulses are also being sold at these counters.

"Mobile vegetable vans have also been pressed into service. Availability of milk is being ensured by Mother Dairy both at its booth as well as mobile milk vans. There is no shortage in supply of milk," Yadav added. Yadav also added that DSCSC has also taken initiatives to provide essential commodities in Trilok Puri area.

"Six mobile vans have been pressed into service which are providing these essential commodities to the people at reasonable rates. The Department has also ensured that all the 34 ration shops in the Trilok Puri area remain open and disburse ration to the beneficiaries. Opening of LPG agencies has also been ensured to avoid any inconvenience to the people," he further added.
