Twenty days after he used abuses and invectives against chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested 48-year-old Chaudhary Rajinder Singh alias Babby, brother of senior BJP leader and former forest minister Chaudhary Lal Singh, from Rajasthan.

On May 20, Babby had used derogatory language against Mufti during a rally demanding CBI probe into the rape and murder of the eight-year-old tribal nomad girl in Kathua.

"He has been arrested in Udaipur. Our team had gone to Rajasthan to arrest him. He is being brought to Hiranagar," said Shridhar Patil, superintendent of police, Kathua.

On May 27, Jammu and Kashmir police had issued a look-out notice against Babby, urging people to inform them about the whereabouts of the absconder. He was booked under section 501/ 509 Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), 66/67 Information Technology Act Police Station Hiranagar and is evading arrest", read the notice.

The incident had occurred on May 20 when Rajinder Singh climbed atop a vehicle and used derogatory language against Mufti while his supporters, carrying tricolours, cheered and jeered. The act was caught on camera and a video went viral.

The incident has sparked massive uproar and outrage across the restive state. Cutting across the ideological lines, main opposition National Conference (NC) demanded FIR against the leader.
