Dual citizenship, special status and nationalisation of rivers are the major issues dominating the Rajya Sabha election of Goa. State presidents of the Congress and the BJP are facing each other as the candidates of the UPA and NDA respectively.

"Many Goans registered their birth in Portugal for better employment opportunities and future. Many of them were unaware that they can lose Indian citizenship if they do so. We need to resolve their situation now", said Shantaram Naik, state president of the Congress and party candidate for Rajya Sabha election.

He also raised the issue of special status to Goa."Goa being a small state, we need to preserve it. Protection of Goa's land and identity should be our priority. We should press for amendments in article 371 to accommodate Goa. We don't need money. We just need protection", said Shantaram.

"Goa has been lucky for the Prime Minister. So we would always prioritise Goa. said Vinay Tendulkar, state president of the BJP and their Rajya Sabha candidate.
