A team of doctors in Indore have set an example by conducting 6,000 autopsies since the last eight years without taking any leave, even on holidays, since November 6, 2006.

"So far, I have performed 6,000 postmortems without any break, even on holidays," Gobind Ballabh Pant Government Hospital's mortuary unit head Bharat Vajpayee told PTI here today.
He said that in 2011, the Limca Book of Records had recognised their untiring efforts.

The hospital's postmortem unit is possibly the smallest in Madhya Pradesh, but it is also one which began providing computerised autopsy reports to the kin of those who lose their near and dear ones, since October 2011, he said.

Besides him, two other members of his team, Santosh Bankar and Gopal Shinde have also worked with him for a long time, playing a major role, conducting autopsies.

With special permission from the District Collector, the team has also conducted postmortems during nights whenever it was necessary, he said.

Vajpayee (53) also appealed to the people to donate their vital parts for the sake of needy people and also demanded to declare any day of the year as "Forensic Day."
