Devendra Fadnavis for strict action against Shikshan Prasarak Mandali scam accused

Even though minister for education Vinod Tawde has not initiated an inquiry against Shikshan Prasarak Mandali despite his public statement to that effect, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday expressed the need for a detailed probe and strict action against those involved in the irregularities of the trust.

Speaking to Zee Media off the camera, Fadnavis made it clear that he was in favour of stringent action against those involved in the alleged irregularities.

Although Tawde on Wednesday had told Zee Media that he would announce the name of the officer for the inquiry, no details of any development on this issue was given on Thursday by the minister. However, assuring that an inquiry would indeed be conducted, Tawde on Thursday insisted that it would not be at the behest of media.

Zee media, including Zee 24 Taas and dna, had exposed the irregularities in the functioning of the Mandali, a trust which has 44 educational institutions acorss Maharashtra. They include Ruia College, Poddar College and Welingkar Institute in Mumbai, Sir Parshurambhau College and NMV High School in Pune and Haribhai Devkaran School in Solapur.

Zee Media had exposed that since the annual general meeting of this trust has not been held for the past six years, the annual audit reports also have not been given a nod. There are allegations of financial irregularities as well as income tax raids on various office bearers of the Mandali.

Fadnavis added that so far there is no request from the minister of education for deploying any officer from the general administration department for this inquiry.
