India on Friday dismissed China’s objection to the meeting between exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, and President Pranab Mukherjee. Mukherjee hosted the Dalai Lama and other Nobel Peace laureates at a conference on children’s rights on Sunday.
“Recently in disregard of China’s strong opposition, India insisted on arranging for the 14th Dalai Lama’s meeting with President Mukherjee,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said.
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Vikas Swarup responded: “His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a respected and revered spiritual leader. It was a non-political event organised by Nobel laureates dedicated to the welfare of children,” he said.
