For the first time in India, it will be mandatory for vehicles to undergo and clear a crash test from next year. The test will be conducted at India's first vehicle-safety testing centre in Chennai which will be operational in a few months. The idea is to check if the car has the right degree of safety margin to save passengers in case of a crash. After clearing the test, the manufacturer will get a certificate stating that the vehicle is fit to hit the road.
