The two-day BJP conclave is all set to begin in Allahabad in the shadow of uncertainty over the question of the party's chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh.
Amidst speculation just ahead of the national executive meet over home minister Rajnath Singh being projected in UP, party leaders have been evasive on the issue saying there were several leaders capable of leading BJP.

A party leader said the meet will focus on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government's two years besides the party's electoral achievements after the victory in Assam and increase in vote share in other states. An "upbeat" government and party will chalk out its future approach, the leader said.
With the party appearing to be in a dilemma on its strategy on projecting a face in UP, it would bank on Modi, who as Prime Ministerial candidate in 2014 had swayed the votes in favour of the BJP in UP. Modi, an OBC and MP from Varanasi, is expected to sound the war bugle when he addresses a rally in Allahabad after the meet.
A senior party leader said the BJP will tread cautiously on the matter and not take any decision in a hurry and it could take another month or two. Faced with leaders like BSP's Mayawati and Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav, the BJP will require a formidable candidate, acceptable to all, if it decided to project a face, the leader indicated.
The tactical choice of holding the meet in Allahabad was also indicative of the party's concentration on UP, where polls are due in less than ten months. The BJP will highlight the achievements of the Modi government over the past two years and send the message that it was addressing concerns of the poor and farmers, while accusing the BSP and SP of "not doing anything" for their dalit and backward vote banks, sources said.
The Mathura violence has also given fuel to the BJP to take on the ruling SP in the state. Party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged that the BSP and Congress were "silent" on the Mathura clashes because of their understanding in Rajya Sabha polls. "It appears that these parties are trying to save the Samajwadi Party government... Probably a reason is that in the Rajya Sabha polls, SP is supporting Congress and BSP too is supporting it in some states," he said. Trivedi also charged a senior state minister, who is also a member of the ruling family, with being part of the conspiracy behind the "institutional land grabbing".
The national executive is expected to come out with two resolutions-- political and economic.
