The Bihar jail authorities on Friday launched a crackdown on Arrah prison after a video purportedly showing inmates using phones and taking drugs openly went viral on social media. 

In the video, criminals were reportedly seen using phones and passing on drugs among each other. The video was allegedly shot inside the jail premises. 

After the video went viral, authorities launched a probe and raided the jail for contraband. 

A senior police official said that the authenticity of the video is being established and strict action will be taken after that. 

"Video being probed. Once its authenticity is established strict action will be taken. It'll be probed how inmates got hold of those things," SK Singhal, ADG HQ, said. 

 

He said that the police will investigate as to how the prisoners got the mobile phones inside the jail. 

Arrah jail houses some of the most dreaded criminals from the state including Naxalities.

Soon after the video went viral and was played by the TV channels, jail authorities swung into action. A team of senior jail and civil police officials conducted raids in various prisons to seize contraband. 

 

The Opposition launched an attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
