News of lawyer’s murder spread like wildfire in Allahabad and enraged lawyers boycotted courts and went on a flash strike
Another lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight in Allahabad on Monday in third such incident in the district in Uttar Pradesh in last two months.
BL Soni, a lawyer practising at Soraon Tehsil, had left his home at Kaudihar in Nawabganj around 10.30 am. Unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants shot him from close range near Lehra village.
SP Trans-Ganga SK Singh said that the police rushed the injured lawyer to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. The body was sent for the post-mortem and the police have detained a few persons for questioning.
“Prima facie, property dispute or personal enmity appears to be the reason behind the murderous assault on the lawyer. A case has been registered against unidentified assailants and investigations are on to identify them,” Singh said.
The SP claimed that they have got some vital clues about assailants and the police will soon arrest them.

Striking lawyers demanded immediate arrest of assailants and compensation to the family members of the lawyer. Heavy police force has been deployed at the High Court and other tehsil and district courts to check any untoward incident.
Last month on May 10, Rajesh Srivastava, a senior Lawyer, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants near busy Manmohan Park crossing in the city. The assailants were later identified and arrested with the help of the CCTV footage.
Ironically, the lawyer’s murder took place in broad daylight when the UP Chief Secretary Rajive Kumar and the DGP OP Singh were in the city to review security arrangements for Kumbh 2019.
Earlier, another lawyer was shot dead in Holagarh area of Allahabad.
