What's in a day? Plenty, if you are a resident of a remote village near Haridwar's Gaindi Khata.

Over 800 people from the village have 1st January as their date of birth on their Aadhaar cards.

Haridwar's Subdivisional Magistrate (SDM) said that the incident came to their notice through the report.

"We will probe the matter and take action against wrong-doers," he said.

The residents claimed that the error occurred despite the villagers providing voter ID cards and ration cards to the private agency which was tasked with making Aadhaar cards.

"We were told we would be getting a unique identification number. But what's unique about it? Even our birthdays are the same now," Alafdin, a resident of the village, told TOI.

Some 250 villagers of Pabupadia in Jaisalmer district found that their new Aadhaar cards cite their date of birth as January 1.
