The suspended Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, the BJP legislator from Khanpur in Uttarakhand who was back in news for brandishing automatic weapons has been dismissed from the party. He was already serving a three-month suspension.

Taking cognisance of the viral video, the state unit of the BJP sent him a show-cause notice and made a recommendation to the central disciplinary committee for stern action to permanently suspend him for the indiscipline shown. "There is a code of conduct for people's representatives in BJP which is a disciplined party that cannot compromise on principles," BJP's Uttarakhand in-charge Shyam Jaju said in a statement.

"A recommendation has been made to the central leadership of the party for his permanent suspension," Jaju said.

The action came after a video, showing him dancing on a Bollywood number with automatic guns in both hands and a glass balanced on his knee, went viral on the social media.

Champion, however, claimed that the clip was edited and an intrusion into his privacy. "The video which has gone viral is edited and an intrusion into my privacy. I never used abusive words against anyone as is being shown by the media," he reportedly told a news channel.

The guns were licensed, unloaded and not pointed at anyone, he said adding that there was nothing wrong in dancing with guns and he has been playing with guns since his childhood.

The stern action against Champion has put other irrepressible lawmakers in a spotlight against whom the BJP is yet to take action despite promising action. These include Akash Vijayvargiya, son of BJP's national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, MP from Bhopal Pragya Thakur and union minister Giriraj Singh.

Showing strong displeasure against Akash, who was jailed for four days for hitting a government official with a bat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reportedly said that such people have no place in the party and should be thrown out.
