Marvel Comic Book fans have known the origin of the ultimate foe of Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange and Black Panther -- a purple bloke called Thanos. But the fans who understand the superhero universe via Marvel Studios' movies have seen this evil titan as part of post-credit scenes in various movies. The trailers of Avengers: Infinity War revealed what he is capable of and what are his intentions with the universe that have forced the hands of Earth's (and of rest of the universe) mighty heroes.

All these visual clues do not tell us that one thing many of the fans are curious about -- where does Thanos come from? Why is he the way he is in Avengers: Infinity War?

Author Barry Lyga's new book titled Thanos - Titan Consumed is here to answer most of your questions.

In an interview with Gizmodo, Lyga revealed what should be the take away from this book.

"It’s less about making him likeable and more about making him understandable. A small distinction, perhaps, but an important one. It’s a pretty big idea to say, “Half the universe must die.” And then it’s a big jump to say, “I’m the guy to do it.” And then bigger to say, “Not only must it be done and not only am I the one to do it, but I know I can do it. And here’s how.

"That’s just an enormous amount of confidence, of persistence, of dedication. Most people wouldn’t even get to the idea of killing half the universe in the first place. Thanos did. And then he took it a step further. And a step further than that. Why? How?" Lyga told the website.

The excerpt of the official summary of the book reads:

Born on a doomed world and cast out by his people for his genius, physical deviancy, and pragmatic but monstrous ideas, Thanos is determined to save the galaxy from the same fate as his homeworld… no matter how many billions have to die.

Learn the origins of the most formidable foe the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, and Black Panther have ever faced—a foe whom even a group of remarkable people, pulled together to fight the battles nobody else could, will fail to stop….

Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives.

Thanos is here.

The book has no canonical ties with MCU but Lyga had long Q&A sessions with the folks at Marvel Studios to get the idea of the nature of the beast.

The author also revealed that the little scenes that feature Thanos in multiple MCU movies will be part of the novel. Giving more insight into why and how the Titan was part of that particular story.

The book will release on November 20. During the downtime between Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled fourth Avengers movie. Giving fans plenty of time to read up on the supervillain and postulate theories.
