Producer Shoojit Sircar says his upcoming film Pink is not inspired by the Nirbhaya incident of 2012.
The trailer of Pink shows megastar Amitabh Bachchan as a lawyer, arguing the case of three women (including Taapsee Pannu) who are accused of attempt to murder.

As the case unravels, details emerge that the women were possibly sexually assaulted by the men who are now being held as the victims.
When asked if the movie is inspired by the December 16 gangrape incident, where a 22-year-old paramedical student was brutally raped and assaulted in a moving bus in the national capital, Shoojit denied drawing any parallels from the case. The victim, who later succumbed, was given the name, 'Nirbhaya' with the incident evoking nationwide protest and demand for change in rape laws in the country.

"Nirbhaya is a big scar in our heart, mind and legal system. We feel ashamed. We went through each department of that case (Nirbhaya case). This film is not inspired by that case," Shoojit said at the trailer launch of Pink.

"We have seen these kind of cases in Delhi, Kolkata. I think everyone will relate to it, it must have happened in life with you all. Nirbhaya case helped me in legal terms but (the film's story) is not based on this case at all. We were inspired by real court cases around the country. We have combined all and made it an entertaining and thrilling journey," he said.

The Vicky Donor helmer revealed the makers took help of lawyers to understand the legal aspects, "The Delhi High Court and Supreme Court, Bar Council helped us. We are thankful to lawyers as they allowed us to be in one of the sessions court and saw many cases."

Shoojit, however, said Bachchan's character is not based on any real-life lawyer. "This character is not based on anybody but whatever the character is talking has been taken from many real-life cases.
He has said some really harsh lines in the film that generally one wouldn't talk in public to a women," he said.

Directed by Bengali filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, who helmed 2006 National Award-winning film Antaheen, Pink will release on September 16.
