Ranbir Kapoor is undoubtedly one of the most loved actors from the younger breed of actors that we have in Bollywood today. But off late, the actor has not had quite a luck at the box office. With his last two films - Besharam and Roy- fizzling out at the cash registers, Ranbir's hopes are pinned on his upcoming film- Bombay Velvet which hit theatres on Friday. But according to latest reports, the film has not been able to pull in good crowd to the theatres.

Anurag Kashyap, who's famous for making dark, slightly off beat films has ventured in the commercial space with Bombay Velvet, also starring Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar in leading roles. But the gamble seemed to have not played well for the maverick director. The film that released on Friday has been receiving a poor response from the audiences and there have been regions where morning shows were cancelled due to lack of audience.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta tweeted, "Bad start for Bombay Velvet. 1st show at Fun, Gwalior cancelled due to lack of audience. Velocity, two Inoxes in Indore report poor collections." Nahta also added that even Roy had a better opening than Bombay Velvet. "Opening of disastrous Roy was better than Bombay Velvet initial in C.I. Sad day for film industry."

Given that it's a Ranbir Kapoor film, it's hard to believe that the audiences aren't flocking to the multiplexes to catch the film. Ever since the film has been announced, Bombay Velvet was mired in controversies and the negative press seems to have taken a toll on the film's box office outing. With a budget of over Rs 100 crore, it will be a difficult task for the film to gain momentum and enter the hit brigade after this.
