Payal Rohatgi moves from reality TV to soaps

She has done several reality shows like Bigg Boss and Survivor, and now Payal Rohatgi is all set to do a fiction show Humsafar. Though she had a couple of episodes of Hum Ne Li Hai Shapath, this will be her first outing in a daily soap. Says Payal, "I have always been known for my glamour but I wanted to do something strong and substantial on TV, which is a woman dominated medium. I was exploring the fiction space and this role came at the right time." The Muslim social will see her playing an ambitious woman who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. "Yes, there are grey shades to my role though my character feels she is justified in doing what she wants," says Payal who has done films like Dil Kabbadi opposite Irrfan Khan and Ugly Aur Pagli with Ranvir Shorey.

Payal who was in a live-in with her wrestler-actor Sangram Singh got formally engaged in February this year. Ask Payal if they have fixed the marriage date and she smiles, "I don't know, probably by the end of this year or next year. Sangram and I have been busy. He just returned from Delhi where he was shooting for his film Yuva and I was also in Gujarat for a film. Now, I have got busy with this serial, so we haven't had time for anything. However, I must tell you that Sangram coaxed me into doing TV." Payal will continue to be her glam self in the serial wearing saris teamed with sexy blouses. "But it will not be over-the-top keeping in mind the conservative backdrop," she says.
