Renowned author JK Rowling has playfully "blamed" actor Tom Felton for turning school bully character Draco Malfoy to a teenage heartthrob in the Harry Potter film series.

Felton, 27, who portrayed the Slytherin bad boy in all eight movie instalments, apologised to Rowling on Twitter for his popularity with the ladies after a fan purchased "Draco Malfoy Is My Boyfriend" T-shirt, reported Entertainment Weekly.

"I'm not too sure Draco would be a good boyfriend. Ron however? (@jk_rowling I'm sorry girls like Malfoy)," he wrote. Rowling, 50, in turn playfully responded by tweeting, "I don't blame you, Tom... I do blame Tom."

Earlier Rowling published a response on her website Pottermore about how "unnerved" she was over the amount of girls who were falling for Malfoy.

"Draco has all the glamour of the anti-hero, girls are very apt to romanticise such people. All of this left me in the unenviable position of pouring cold common sense on ardent readers' daydreams."

"I told them, rather severely, that Draco was not concealing a heart of gold under all that sneering and prejudice and that no, he and Harry were not destined to end up best friends," Rowling added.
