Netflix's popular show, 'Orange is the new Black' failed to get any award at the Emmy Awards ceremony despite its popularity, and the blame has been placed squarely on cable networks and voters.

Though Netflix was supposed to have a grand time and a funny video highlighting the network's popularity was also shown, this turned out to be the only saving grace for the streaming network.

Netflix had entered this year’s Emmy race with an impressive 31 nominations. It also managed to pick up seven wins at last week’s Creative Arts Emmy ceremony. But despite all the brouhaha, the network ended being empty-handed during Monday night’s 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards with zero wins.

But, nothing takes away the popularity of 'Orange is the new Black' and here's why you must watch the show:

Synopsis of the series: The show revolves around Piper Chapman (based on book by Piper Kerman and her experiences in a jail) who is on the verge of settling down with her fiance Larry when she was arrested for her involvement in drug peddling and money laundering 10 years ago. Chapman was in a relationship with Alex Vause and this became the bone of contention between Piper and Larry when she got jailed, as even Vause was serving her time in the same facility.

Lies, treachery and drama with racial undertones follow within the premises, as Piper tries making sense of her surroundings and ends up getting in trouble time and again due to her gullible nature. The main characters are Daya Diaz and the Latinas, Kitchen matriarch Galina "Red" Reznikov, Piper Chapman's fiance Larry, her ex-girlfriend Alex Vause, women's prison supervisor Sam Healy and Pennsatucky.

*The show takes a realistic view of situations inside a prison with plots, sub-plots and shows human psyche in an interesting manner

Be it Piper Chapman's confession to the crime or her relationship with Alex Vause, the drama is funny, palatable and extremely engrossing. Your heart goes out to the inmates as the situations get murky and even the police authorities become part of the tale.

*From finding the lone surviving mythical chicken to understanding how these women deal with issues, the show is a fine watch:

Drug cartels, cops involved in drug dealings to a romantic affair between an inmate and a cop that propels the story forward, the show is uninhibitedly as real as it gets. With interesting flashbacks, scenarios that depict the situation within the confines with gruesome authenticity, nothing beats a real slice of life after our obsession with 'Game of Thrones' and the likes.

The 'humour quotient':

Ever wonder what happens when a couple cannot understand each other due to language barrier, or what happens when a relationship ends without closure and reaches the confines of a prison? Watch the show to understand what we mean.
