Star Trek has spawned a generation of fans or ‘Trekkies’ as they like to be called who swear by the intergalactic Starfleet’s adventures. This time around it is a simple tale of revenge where James T.Kirk (Chris Pine) defends his men from the heinous attack of a baddie played by Cumberbatch. Even though the plot is linear, there is enough drama and twists and turns to keep you engaged.

The enterprise's charm revolves around Kirk and Spock’s (Quinto) verbal duel. Abrams taps into their chemistry and delivers some winning scenes. The casting is impeccable and most of the actors seem thrilled to be able to return to their roles. Visually, Abrams goes all out to create a world that tells its story through the hues and colors of its landscapes and backgrounds. Action is top notch and most of the chase and battle sequences are far better than its predecessor.

Into Darkness creates the right kind of balance between action and emotion. Quinto is a fabulous find to fill in Leonard Nimoy’s legendary shoes and he takes to the role with passion. The back slapping off-screen chemistry that he shares with Pine takes a back seat the moment these actors get into their characters. However, it is Benedict Cumberbatch who steals the show and wows you with his presence. His every move, dialogue and punch bears a stamp of ingenuity.

Watch it regardless of whether you are a fan of the series or not. Star Trek Into Darkness will win over new audience and regale you with a three course meal of action, adventure and thrill.
