The opening weekend figures are already out and Akshay Kumar's Airlift has taken a giant leap at the domestic box office over the Tusshar Kapoor-Aftab Shivdasani starrer Kya Kool Hai Hum 3.
Another big budgeted Bollywood clash is over and the results are out! Akshay Kumar's Airlift has literally crushed Tusshar Kapoor's adult comedy Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 that released alongside last Friday. While it was anticipated that given its niche elements, the audience reach for Airlift will become limited, the film has grown leaps and bounds at the box office. On the other hand, trade pundits had predicted a strong competition coming from Kya Kool Hai Hum 3, for it's great audience base and franchise recall value. That hasn't happened.
It's yet another victory of content at the box office. Even during the Dilwale versus Bajirao Mastani clash, BM had dethroned the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, merely on the basis of a good plotline which was terribly lacking from the SRK-Kajol starrer. Similarly, with great reviews and an excellent word of mouth, Airlift has triumphed over KKHH 3 at the box office, after three days.
The opening weekend is finally over and here are the results. Akshay Kumar's patriotic thriller has been winning hearts all over and only grew over the coming days. While it collected Rs 12.35 crore on Friday, it added another Rs 14.60 crore on Saturday. But it was an excellent Sunday with collections around Rs 17.35 crore coming in that ensured that Airlift turned tables at the domestic box office. The three day total of Airlift now stands at a brilliant Rs 44.30 crore and the film is expected to gain further momentum and add a lot more to its kitty in the Republic Day week.
KKHH 3 started off great and collected Rs 8.15 crore. But after being heavily panned by critics and audience at large, the film suffered a huge blow at the box office as the collections dipped on the second day itself. KKHH 3 netted in only Rs 5.50 crore on Saturday and another Rs 6.50 crore on Sunday. Thus, the three day collections for KKHH 3 stand at Rs 20.15 crore which is less than half of what Airlift brought in the same time.
The trade verdict is clear and it's Akshay Kumar who has thumped the audlt comedy makers and made sure his patriotic thriller grabs the most amount of eyeballs. As of now, it's a win-win situation for Akki! As for Tusshar, we hope your next film Mastizaade lives up to its expectations at the BO, at least!
